Large, open leaf lettuce.
 
Plant into rich and well-draining soil. Give them full sun in winter, semi-shade through Spring and Autumn and full shade/ early morning sun only in Summer.
 
 
Lettuces will do best planted in Autumn, Winter and Spring. Plants can bolt in the summer heat so stick to bolt resistant varieties such as Cos, Buttercrunch, Simpson and Batavian types. Young plants can be damaged by frosts in winter.
 
Water well for the first few days after planting, and then as needed. Plants will require more water during dry periods.
